On March 27, 2001 the Mid-Island Striders Track Club set out on its first college tour. The striders drove over 1600 miles and visited nine universities in the southeastern part of the United States. The Striders were also priviledged to participate in the prestigious Florida Relays at the University of Florida-Gainesville. Seven high school athletes from various schools participated in the tour. They were; Knorisha Tucker and Samantha Smith (Cedarbridge Academy), Kendia Gill, Cheri Minors, and Kendell Webb (Warwick Academy), and Darren Harvey and Dennis Joell both graduates of Cedarbridge Academy.
At the Florida Relays, each school and Bermuda were represented well. Three girls, Kendia Gill, Samantha Smith and Knorisha Tucker made it to the finals of the 100m dash. Kendia Gill finished seventh overall out of thirty two girls.
The athletes also enjoyed visiting the various universities and asked lots of questions. All in all the trip was a success and we are looking forward to our next trip/tour in April.
